So New York is a pretty awful place for contemporary art or at least almost everything I've seen on show appears that way, so I've spent the past two days in the Met, which houses a fairly incredible collection of paintings, hence the last set of posts.
This leads on quite well to a bit of shameless self promotion, I have a show, as part of sopping granite, taking place in Chicago in August called "The First Letter of Every Word is You", details below:
"Scott Projects is pleased to announce the opening of the London-based duo, Sopping Granite (Ben Vickers and Sarah Hartnett) for Saturday, August 8.
Thumbing granite rocks into the womb of a marshmallow mermaid, sopping granite compound orgiastic waterfalls on the cotton fields of heaven.
Fragmented by impulse and spontaneity, stitched up with love and trust, draped and laced with confirmed seduction. Awkward in the face of fixed perception, sopping granite resides among the calming waves of the INFOspirit. Together they refashion Caspar’s icy shipwreck, re-erecting Böcklin’s isle, creating it afresh, refashioning its melancholy.
For the duration of the pair’s stay in Chicago, they will be found at Scotts Project cultivating a supplementary garden of earthly delights. Exchanging their aspirations through simple telepathy, as they assemble fleeting altars and reflective pools too Eros and the Apis mellifera.
Sarah and Ben will expose these fervent acts on the opening night of the show, an interruption to an otherwise private action. During the week leading up to the show www.soppinggranite.com will enter a transitory stage in which accompanying activities and processes may come to light."
If you can come along that would be great!
