Images from a 2 hour (only) event/exhibiton I attended this thursday at Plan9 in Bristol.
From the event listing:
"The Seed, a one off event that punctuates an ongoing collaboration between artists Natasha MacVoy, Lucie Wilkins and Zoe Williams.
The Seed seeks to capture elements of high polished decadence undermined by a subtle undercurrent of debauchery. Guests will encounter a carefully coutured and highly fetishized environment, which will function as both stage set and object. The Seed will investigate the tension between body, object and adornment, creating a myriad of associations and a sense of lavish fantasy."
The level of work and planning that had gone into this event for its 2 hour duration was fairly breathtaking and is perhaps one of the most competent exhibitions i will witness this year.
Despite my initial apprehension that this would be another art event that indulges itself in hollow decadence and hedonistic self obsessed artistic practice, i was pleasantly surprised by the critical distance the work commanded and the context it created for itself, its comment seemed ambiguous and i found the possible cynicism difficult to position in the work. Suffice to say any attempt to translate the event would fall short of the conveyed spectacle that was presented on the night.
